- Take 1 cup millet (bajri)
- Take 1/4 cup mung daal
- Prepare 1/8 cup rice
- Take to taste Salt

- Take 1 tbsp ghee
- Prepare 1/2 tsp jeera
- Take 1/4 tsp Turmaric powder
- Get 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- Prepare 1/4 tsp hing
Foxtail Millet or Navane or Tenai Khichdi for babies or toddlers is a simple, easy to make with very few easily available ingredients at home. Khichdi is a simple wholesome food prepared in most parts of India. Rice and dal are the main ingredients and I replaced rice with millet. Khichadi is also known as khichuri, khichari, kedgeree.
Instructions to make Millet khichadi:
- Soak bajri in hot water for at least 6 hr. Semi Crush bajri with hand crusher.
- Soak daal and rice for 30min.
- Take a pressure cooker and add crushed bajri, soaked daal and rice, salt as require, hing, 1 1/2cup water, and keep on slow flame for 12-15 min. Add water gradually as require.
- Set the consistency like kadhi, and lock the cooker now. Do 1 Whistle and cool down a little.
- Heat ghee in a tadka pan. Add jeera and hing. Turn off heat add then add Turmaric powder and chilli powder. (Tadka is optional step, u can enjoy as it is, simple)
- Add into khichadi and mix well.
- Serve hot with kadhi. Or with your full meal, with flavourful sabji or rassa vali sabji.
Bajra is known as pearl millet, black millet and green millet. This millet khichdi made from pearl millet and foxtile millet tastes really delicious.
