  1. Get 2 cups porso millet,
  2. Prepare 1 cup wheat daliya,

  4. Take 1 tspn of methi seeds

And tried only half the quantity. I call these Idlis as Millet Idlis as it is the main ingredient, I used Barnyard millets, you can use regular idli rice if you like. Unlike regular idlis, these idlis are heavier , but. Grind millets adding water little at a time to a slightly coarse batter.

Instructions to make Porso millet and dal Idli:
  1. Soak porso millet, daliya,dal and methi seeds separately overnight
  2. Grind them all in the morning and mix together
  3. Keep for fermentation for 5-6 hours
  4. Add salt to taste And Mix well
  5. Grease the Idli mould - Keep the steamer ready
  6. Pour batter in the greased mould and place it in the steamer.
  7. Let it steam for 10-15 minutes - Take out when done
  8. Enjoy with coconut chutney

My millet idlis are as tasty, soft and porus as rice idlis served with Chettinaad Kaara Chutney. Using a blender/mixie, first grind the dal and methi seeds till it becomes fluffy. Add very little water while grinding. Heat enough water in the idly pot, grease the idly platter with little oil or ghee (for kids) and then take a scoop of batter and fill in the idly platter. Once you see steam from the idly pot, place the idly platter and close it with a lid.
